ABERGAVENNY Museum will be hosting an exhibition by a Monmouthshire artist from January 18 to March 1.

The museum will be hosting the Coal Tree Salt Sea exhibition by artist Sarah Rhys, which first started as an Arts Council Wales project with the Josef Herman Art Foundation Cymru.

As well as a significant body of Ms Rhys’ own work, the exhibition also includes works by Josef Herman.

It also includes Coal Tree Salt Sea documents and expands on the project that Ms Rhys took to Poland and the Czech Republic, as well as contributions and poems from other authors.

Sarah Rhys is an inter-disciplinary artist who is interested in memory and place and uses a range of media from sculptural installations, projections, drawing, photography and artists’ books.

She originally studied architectural glass in Swansea before moving to Bath Spa University and more recently studying multi-disciplinary print making at the University of the West of England.

Councillor Bob Greenland, Monmouthshire’s cabinet member with responsibility for museums, said: “I’m pleased that we’re able to feature such a gifted artist’s intriguing work and bring it to the attention of the county’s communities as well as the many visitors who enjoy our museums’ varied and interesting exhibitions.”

The exhibition is on from Wednesday, January 18 to Wednesday, March 1, and the Abergavenny Museum is open on Monday to Saturday from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.
