ABERGAVENNY-based race team SMG is celebrating having been honoured with a 'best prepared car' award at a national ceremony.

The club was recognised with the gong after entering two cars into the 2016 Dunlop 'Mini Se7en' Championship.

The two cars, driven by Monmouthshire-based racing drivers Ashley Davies and Leon Window, went on to secure first place in the National Championship and Novice Championship respectively.

The achievement was backed up by the 'best prepared car' award, for MrWindow’s car, as voted for by fellow club members.

Commenting on the award, Mr Window, sales director for Select Security, said: “A lot of hard work went into the build, and it's very nice for SMG to have some recognition for it.

"I would like to say thank you very much to team SMG for building a beautiful race car and keeping it that way all season."

A spokesman for SMG added: “We really could not have asked for a better 2016, and we look forward to showcasing both cars throughout the coming season.”
