RUGBY fans travelling back by train from the clash between Wales and Ireland were treated to a Monmouthshire farmer’s impressive singing voice.

Huw Adams, of Coombe Farm, Llanvair Discoed, was filmed belting out Tom Jones’ signature song ‘Delilah’ on the 10.42pm train to Newport from Cardiff Central on Friday evening.

Mandy Evans, who had travelled down from Pwllheli, North Wales, for the penultimate Six Nations match, was one of several people on the train to film him.

Her video, which has been circulated by a Facebook rugby fan page, Wales2Win, has reached nearly 1.5 million people and has been viewed nearly 600,000 times.

The upload on the fansite has also attracted nearly 30,000 likes and has been shared nearly 20,000 times.

“We were all crammed onto the train, Welsh and Irish fans, and he just burst into the national anthem. Everyone just got their phones out to film him,” said Ms Evans.

“Then he started singing Delilah and everyone on the carriage joined in in good voice.

“It was just a great atmosphere, that’s what’s great about the rugby scene as a whole. Everybody embraces everybody as friends.”

Mr Adams told the Argus that he was originally challenged to sing by two Irish fans sitting across from him and his friend, Chris Morgan.

“It was a bit of banter, one of them said that we couldn’t sing our own anthem. I kept quiet at first but I could feel the opportunity to start singing,” said the 31-year-old farmer.

“I started singing the Welsh anthem, then the Irish anthem and then Delilah and then I looked up and saw about 10 phones in my face. The Irish boys were cracking up.”

His performance was not a one-off, as he acts as the club singer for his current club Caldicot RFC and previously for Monmouth RFC.

Mr Adams, a member of Wentwood Young Farmers Club, also shows off his "passion for singing" in a 10-piece rhythm and blues band, Soul’d Out.

Speaking about the video’s reception, he said: “Having had 10 phones in my face I was expecting it to end up somewhere so I was looking out for it.

“It’s just amazing, it’s not the first time I’ve been filmed singing but this has just gone viral, it’s just the nature of social media.”
