A WRITER is undertaking a series of activities to raise money in memory of a nurse who died from Leukaemia.

Tim Lebbon, who lives in Goytre, is carrying out one charitable activity each month in 2017, for the late Paula Wallace.

The Argus previously reported how the Newport nurse and mum was suffering with leukaemia, with her only chance of survival being a stem cell transplant.

The transplant took place but, tragically, the cancer returned and Ms Wallace died in December last year.

“I knew Paula for over 20 years,” said Mr Lebbon, “She was my wife’s best friend and they had known each other for even longer – probably just over 40 years.

“Once met she was never forgotten because Paula was a strong, fearless, loyal and generous person.”

He added: “Her death has left a hole in all of our lives and I want to raise money to honour her memory.

“This year I’m going to undertake 12 tough sporting challenges – so basically one each month.”

Mr Lebbon said this month’s challenge will see him take on a tough 20-mile challenge.

He said: “I’m going to be running and walking 20 miles, including the Sugarloaf, Blorenge and Skirrid on Saturday for Paula.

“I’m really looking forward to it and am feeling prepared.

“In total I’m hoping by the end of this year to have raised £2,000.”

Mr Lebbon said the money will be donated to the charity Delete Blood Cancer, because of their “essential work”.

He added: “I first heard about the charity a while ago and found out that they do a really good job in helping people.

“The charity basically tries to register people as donors and helps to raise awareness.

“The charity helps people like Paula and they need our support.”

Other activities throughout the year include a 100-mile bike ride in April, a half-marathon in September and a Velothon (90-mile bike ride) in July.

Mr Lebbon has currently raised £571.98.
