A HOST of activities and events take place across Monmouthshire this Easter with egg hunts, a free family fun day at Caldicot Castle, military re-enactments, sporting opportunities and more.

Easter egg hunts will feature at Tintern’s Old Station visitor centre (Friday 14 to Sunday April 23), Caldicot Castle (Friday 14 to Monday, April 17), the Herbert Lewis department store in Chepstow (Monday 10 to Saturday April 15) and the Abbey Mill Wye Valley Centre (Sunday April 16).

Good Friday (April 14) sees a special open day at Caldicot Castle coinciding with the launch of its new children’s play park and refurbished cafe.

This event from 11am to 4pm will include arts and crafts, a bouncy castle, inflatable football, archery, an Easter egg hunt across the country park, and even the chance to abseil down one of the castle’s towers. Entry is free.

Monmouth will be the setting for a military history event as the 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers Napoleonic Re-enactment Society sets up camp for training in the grounds of the Kymin Round House.

Society members will live as authentically as possible practicing drilling, firing musket and carrying out battlefield surgery as well as answering questions on military and civilian life in 1809.

This free event runs on Saturday 22 and Sunday April 23

The Lower Wye Valley is the scene for the annual Chepstow Walking Festival taking place from Wednesday 19 to Sunday April 23.

Experienced leaders will introduce visitors to the area’s stunning landscape and heritage while focusing on its geology, history, and wildlife.

Each day features a dog-friendly walk.
