FROM Pontypool Museum's digital archives are two images which take a look back at a former school in Blaenavon.

According to the log book in the Gwent Archives, between the years of 1871 and 1992, there were 12 schools in the northern tip of the region, catering across the age ranges from infants to adults.

One of these schools on the log is the Wesleyan School on Park Street, which was split into two sections – an infants and boy’s school.

The latter became a mixed school in 1907.

One of the images shows the class from the infant school in 1912, with its 40 students and one teacher posing for the photograph.

The teacher from the infant class appears again in the other photo, which shows the school’s staff from the same year.

These images were donated by the Pontypool Museum as part of its digital archive, which aims to preserve historic documents, images and records from the area.
