A STUDENT ran her first marathon to raise hundreds of pounds for charity and awareness about type one diabetes.

Chloe Peel, of Chepstow, completed the London Marathon on Sunday in aid of Diabetes UK, raising £430 to date.

The 21-year-old, who is studying dentistry at Plymouth University, completed the race for her dad, who has had type one diabetes since childhood.

After crossing the line, she said: “I am so proud to have completed my first ever marathon and would like to thank everyone who has donated to my fundraising or helped me raise awareness of diabetes.

“I had a great day, particularly as the atmosphere is so amazing with all the crowds and my family cheering me on. I have to admit the last three miles were a massive struggle though, but I made it through and the feeling of crossing the finish line is something I will never forget. I did this for my dad, because he has type one diabetes and I know how serious the condition is.

“I’m really pleased to have been able to raise awareness of the condition and help support other people living with it by running the London Marathon.”

In preparation for her marathon attempt Chloe trained since Christmas by running three times a week, while also studying dentistry at university.

She added: “It has been a fine balance between keeping up with my studies and fitting in running at the same time.

“For the last three months my life has completely revolved around when I can fit in my next run.

“Training has certainly been a challenge but nothing beats that sense of achievement when you get back from a run.

“When I run I can forget about everything else that may be going on in my life and clear my head.

“I love the feeling when you get back from a run and that’s what makes me want to go out again and push myself even more.”

Chloe plans to take on another challenge for the charity, this time with her father, when they will both cycle 100 miles in the Prudential RideLondon event this July. To sponsor Chloe visit justgiving.com/fundraising/Chloe-Peel
