MONMMOUTH AM Nick Ramsay is supporting Sustrans Cymru’s “Active Journey” programme which is now open to schools in Monmouthshire to apply.

The organisation works with schools in Wales to increase the number of people scooting, cycling and walking the school run, encouraging physical activity at a time when childhood obesity is so high.

Speaking yesterday, Mr Ramsay said: “When fewer children are driven to school there’s a reduction in traffic congestion and parking problems which benefits everyone quite apart from the benefits to children of increased physical activity.

“I would encourage all our local schools who have not already joined the programme to investigate becoming an Active Journeys school."
