PUPILS at a Caldicot primary school were given a surprise during a flight to film an appearance on a TV show.

Last month, the youngsters were accompanied by staff and parents on the flight to Glasgow as they appeared on ITV’s Top Class, which will be shown on CBBC later this year.

Jana Prelevic, Gemma Read, Lucie Williams, Jay Stephenson and Violet Stones made the trip along with class teacher Sue Wilsher and teaching assistant Tracey Withey.

When they had landed, the group were given permission have a look around the cockpit and Mrs Wilsher was surprised to see a familiar face in the pilot’s seat.

Adam Llewellyn had been a former pupil of Mrs Wilsher’s husband at St Mary’s Junior School, which later became Castle Park.

“I have known Adam since he was in junior school. He lived very close to us when he was growing up and we went to his first wedding but he now lives in Bristol.

“I had no idea he would be on that flight and was so surprised to see him as we made our way to the front of the plane for the children to go into the cockpit. Mrs Withey had asked a stewardess during the flight if it would be possible. I think the other children and parents wondered why their teacher was hugging the pilot!”
