A CALDICOT woman is aiming to raise awareness of a type of blood cancer after her mother was diagnosed with the illness.

In March, Julia Duffield was diagnosed with myeloma, a cancer in the bone marrow, and her two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, have rallied to support her.

Her daughter, Nicola Richards, has so far raised nearly £200 on a JustGiving page to go towards cancer charity Myeloma UK after the news.

“It was obviously a shock, it’s one cancer that I’ve never heard much of before and there’s no cure,” said Mrs Richards.

“Mum’s been generally very positive. We’ve had so many get well cards as well, so it’s nice that people are thinking of her.”

A fundraising coffee morning for Myeloma UK will be held at the Caldicot Choir Hall on Wednesday, August 23, from 11am until 3pm.

Businesses have donated prizes for a raffle, with Mrs Richards admitting to being “overwhelmed with the public response”.

Entry will cost £5, which includes a hot drink and cake.
