THREE pupils from Monmouth School are preparing to embark on a cycling challenge across the Pyrenees to raise £15,000 for the Hands Up Foundation and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

Adam Hart, Lucas Penn and Lucas Wagner, all aged 17, will aim are aiming to pedal 450 miles in just 100 hours as part of the Raid Pyrenean.

They will also have are having to deal with 11,000 metres of vertical ascent – the equivalent of cycling from Chepstow to Anglesey and back, and climbing Snowdon 10 times.

“It’s a ridiculous challenge, but it will also be incredible,” said Lucas Wagner before they set off.

“It will be beautiful – the scenery will be amazing. But there’s nothing like the pain of cycling 160km and waking up knowing you’ve got to do it all again.”

The boys, who will be staying in B&Bs during the four-and-a-half days they’re completing the ride.

Lucas Penn’s father Robert will also be joining them on the ride, having completed cycling challenges around the world.
