GWENT Police are appealing for information following after a purse was taken from a car parked in Abergavenny last month.

The incident occurred overnight and was reported to the police at around 6.50am on Tuesday, June 9 as the car, parked in Hereford Road, was broken into.

A card from the stolen purse was later used to make contactless payments at Welsh Gifts and Tesco in the Monmouthshire town.

Officers have released CCTV footage of a man who they wish to speak to in order to aid the police with their inquiries.

PC Adam Hollings, the ward manager for Abergavenny, said “We have recently had a small number of vehicles broken into in the town centre and items stolen from within.

“We have increased patrols in the area and have also identified a suspect on CCTV. We would like to appeal for your help to identify him.

“I would also like to urge people to hide any valuables out of sight or if possible don’t leave them in the car at all.

“These crimes all appear to have been committed after the thief has seen valuables on show through the window.

“This includes loose change, CDs, phones, satellite navigation systems and anything else of any value.”

Anyone with information should call the police on 101 quoting log reference 49 09/06/17.
