AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into an incident at Abergavenny train station on Friday, July 28, which closed the station for more than two hours.

Damage caused to overhead cabling resulted in the suspension of services from 6pm, before one line was re-opened at around 8pm.

It was fully operational on the following day, however there was also damage caused to buildings at the station.

The firm responsible of the railway line, Network Rail, have confirmed that they will be working with Arriva Trains Wales, the network operator, for the purposes of an investigation.

A spokeswoman for Network Rail said: “Safety is a key priority and we will work closely with our partners Arriva Trains Wales to fully support the Rail Accident Investigation Branch investigation.”

As previously reported in the South Wales Argus, the damage to the overhead cables also caused minor injuries to four teenage girls, who arrived at Abergavenny train station shortly before 6pm.
