TOWN councillors in Chepstow will be asked to give their views on controversial plans to build a thermal waste plant.

Plans to build 15.5 metre high chimneys at the former Tata Steel site in Portskewett’s Severn Bridge Industrial Estate, near Caldicot, have caused controversy since being lodged in June by DPS Process Solutions Limited.

Representatives from Severnside Together Opposing Pollution are set to give their views on the plans at a Chepstow Town Council meeting this evening, Wednesday.

Councillors will then later be asked at the meeting to consider, and if appropriate to object, to the application.

The application has attracted more than 200 objections, with MPs Jessica Morden and David Davies among those with concerns over air pollution.

DPS have said all materials handled at the site would be “non-hazardous”, but concerns remain over the unit’s close proximity to residential areas.
