A spokeswoman from West Mercia Police said they received a call at 6.10am from a driver of an articulated lorry who had tried to drive under the railway bridge at Pontrilas on the A465 in Herefordshire and got stuck.
The road was blocked and a diversion was put in place. There were no reported injuries.
At 6.45am network rail stopped trains as a precaution. By 7am the rail company confirmed damage was just superficial and trains began to run again.
Part of the A465 remains closed while the vehicle is removed.
UPDATE: 10.27am
THE A465 is closed in both directions between the Hardwick Roundabout in Abergavenny and the B4349 junction in Hereford due to a vehicle striking a railway bridge and recovery work. Police directing traffic.
Police confirm that significant damage has been caused in the accident.
