A CALDICOT woman will compete to be named Miss Wales at an event in Port Talbot this weekend.

Hannah Bowen, 22, will also seek to be named Miss Monmouthshire at the Princess Theatre, along with the county’s other nominees, Louisa Fletcher and Paige Morris.

Ms Bowen has only been able to compete because of a donation made by the landlady of The Castle Inn, Judy Gribble. She donated £400 towards the costs of competing in the event and buying clothes.

Contestants will travel to Port Talbot for an empowerment day before the competition starts after rehearsals on Friday and Saturday.

She said: “I think it is confidence building. We will spend a lot of time with the other contestants.”

Ms Bowen, who will be competing in her first beauty pageant and works at S&D Sealants in Chepstow, said she is looking to prove to people she is not as reserved as she has seemed in the past.

Her mum Jenny, dad Dean and boyfriend Luke Williams will all be at the theatre to support her over the two days.
