A CHARITY fundraiser collected £700 by shaving her head in memory of a woman who died as a result of an illness linked to diabetes.

Alice Griffiths took on a hair raising challenge to raise money for Diabetes UK Cymru at a fundraiser organised in memory of Usk woman Lisa Howells.

She braved the challenge of shaving her head as part of the three-day “Lisafest” fundraising event held at the Inn Between pub in Bridge Street, Usk.

The pub’s landlady and organiser of the event Patricia Hunt is aiming to raise £10,000 for Diabetes UK after her friend Lisa passed away at the age of 38 as the result of an illness related to her Type 1 diabetes.

The event took place on the weekend that Lisa would have celebrated her 39th birthday, between July 18 and 20.

Diabetes UK Cymru Director Dai Williams said: “Alice was really brave to take on this challenge and it just goes to show how committed Lisa’s friends are to improving the support available for other people living with diabetes.”
