A DOG rescue charity has received £1,500 funding from the Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

The donation has been used to purchase essential equipment such as a micro-chip scanner, bowls, leads and bedding. This equipment will be used by rescue centre to enhance the lives of dogs in their care, reunite them with their previous owners and support their safe transport to rescue placements.

Hope Rescue, which was established in 2005, who mainly deal with strays from local authority pounds. Their focus is on co-ordinating the rescue of dogs across South Wales which would otherwise be euthanised once they have completed their statutory seven days.

Vanessa Waddon, chairwoman of Trustees for Hope Rescue, said: “Hope Rescue is entirely self-funded, and relies heavily on the fantastic support of our volunteers. Most of our expenses are for boarding, medical and transport costs that we cannot reclaim through fees since the dogs are rehomed by other rescue centres. Fundraising is an uphill struggle and we are extremely grateful to Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation for their support.”

Since 2000, Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has contributed over £160,000 to 262 local organisations and charities.

Penny Reeves, chairman of Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, said: “The Foundation is delighted to be able to provide financial support to such a worthwhile local organisation, especially since Hope Rescue relies entirely on the local community for support. We hope that our funding will help Hope Rescue to continue their outstanding work co-ordinating dog rescue and giving so many dogs another chance to enjoy the care and happiness they deserve.”
