CELEBRATED Monmouthshire chef Stephen Terry opened a new kitchen at an Abergavenny children’s centre on Friday.

He opened the new facility at the Acorn Centre in the town on Friday which forms part of the FUN (Families Understanding Nutrition) Kitchen Project.

The centre looks to improve the health, education and emotional development of young children and their families and to reduce child poverty.

And the FUN Kitchen Project is aimed at low income families, young and single parents, who can teach budget management and save money by learning to cook healthy food at low cost. It is hoped it will improve people’s quality of life by reducing obesity and improving health.

The centre is based on the Deri View Primary School’s ground on Llywynu Lane.

Abergavenny firms and organisations helped with the kitchen, including its town council, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Cornerstone Church and Randal Constructions.

While IEF Construction, Philip Good Funeral House, Alun Griffiths, the P J Jones Food Co-Op and Beavan Family Butchers also provided assistance.
