USK has scooped the gold award for the best large village at the 50th Britain in Bloom UK Final awards last night.

Around 71 finalists represented their region or nation in the UK finals of the biggest community gardening campaign, which is now run by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). The Usk in Bloom group were representing Wales after winning the Wales in Bloom award for the small rural town category in September for the 33rd year in a row.

The children in Usk Primary School, as well as volunteers and businesses came together to make the floral displays within the town, which was visited by the Duchess of Cornwall in June. Volunteers had been working on displays for nine months before RHS Britain in Bloom’s judging panel, led by Roger Burnett and Jim Buttress, BBC Great Allotment Challenge Judge visited the town in August.

The award ceremony was held last night and hosted by Adam Frost, a world-leading garden designer and RHS Ambassador.

The RHS Britain in Bloom awards are a chance to praise the work of 300,000 volunteers across the UK, who are committed to transforming community space.
