LITTLE Imogen Ashwell-Lewis is all smiles as she recovers in hospital after undergoing pioneering surgery to help her walk independently.

The Free Press reported this month how the Caldicot youngster became the first child in Wales to undergo selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) funded by the NHS in Wales.

And now, following the four hour specialist procedure, Imogen's mum Catherine Ashwell-Rice said the brave youngster is sitting up on her own.

She said: “She is doing it all with a smile on her face and without complaint.

“Imogen loves it in the hospital and I can’t fault them at all. All the staff have been amazing both with caring for Imogen and supporting me.”
