UPDATE 10.30am
Saturday February 21

There are Flood Alerts for the South Wales coast from Aberthaw to Severn Bridge, the Usk Estuary and Wye Estuary in Monmouthshire.

The A466 was closed at Tintern again today as a precaution against flooding.

UPDATE 9.06am

There have been warnings of very high ‘supertides’ causing 50ft waves in parts of the Bristol Channel in the next few days because of a rare planetary alignment which only happens every 20 years.

The relative positions of the sun, moon and earth means the gravitational pull on the oceans is greater than normal in 2015.

The moon is also at a point in its orbit which will increase the effect.

UPDATE 8.55am

The A466 through Tintern was expected to close due to high tides this morning and reopen as soon as the water has receded from the highway, in around ten minutes. It will close again later today between 8.50pm and 9.30pm if water spills over the carriageway.

UPDATE 8.27am

THERE are Flood Warnings in place for the Wye Estuary at Chepstow and near Tintern this morning as high tides hit Gwent.

High tide at Newport was expected to reach 7.5 metres at 8.00 this morning and 25 minutes later at Chepstow.

There are Flood Alerts in place for the Usk estuary around Newport and the Wye Estuary in Monmouthshire.

There is some flooding reported in Caerleon this morning:
