THE man behind the number one hit Video Killed the Radio Star is lending his support to a fundraising concert for Nepal.

Raglan resident and member of rock band Asia, Geoff Downes is among those who have signed up to perform at the Raglan Concert for Nepal.

The concert is being organised by Raglan Baptist Church to raise funds for those affected by the recent earthquakes in Nepal.

The church has links with the country and supports a family based in Kathmandu, through the donations to the Baptist Missionary Society World Mission, which is involved in medical and educational training both in the capital and more remote areas.

The Rev Dr Rob Atkins, Minister of Raglan Baptist Church said: “We are able to see the Chadwell family perhaps every couple of years when they come to Britain and we have got to know them well so now these earthquakes have struck we want to show our love. It’s great to be able to bring the village of Raglan together to do just that.”

Mr Downes, who was a member of the 70s group The Buggles alongside Trevor Horn, now a producer, will perform at the church alongside singer-songwriter Angharad Griffiths, her sister Rhiannon Griffiths and Dave Griffiths.

“Geoff is always delighted to support local, causes when he can find time in his busy international schedule,” added Rev Dr Atkins.

Rev Dr Atkins is a guitarist in the Celtic Folk band ‘Frost at Midnight’ in which his wife Catherine, a leading classical flautist, sings and will be performing at the concert.

The concert is at Raglan Baptist Church, Raglan, 7.30pm on FridayMay 22. Entry via donation.
