A SINGING flash mob surprised a 70-year-old woman in Caldicot who’s retiring after working for 30 years at the town's leisure centre.

Janet Day, 70, of Castle Gardens, has worked at Caldicot Leisure Centre in the catering team for nearly 32 years. To celebrate her last day on Tuesday she was surprised with a flash mob of around 30 members of the Chepstow Castle branch of the Singing Club of Chepstow.

The club sang Bring me Sunshine, Bread of Heaven and hits from West Side Story including Tonight and Somewhere.

Mrs Day said: "It was such a surprise - I knew nothing at all. I was is work for the last time as a special favour and was with a customer making a sandwich when my supervisor asked if I could come downstairs.

"There they were at the bottom of the stairs singing and dancing- they know how much I love musicals. I was very touched and very tearful."

She added:"It was so lovely - I can't speak more highly of Karl Daymond."

Mrs Day said she has enjoyed talking with customers at the leisure centre for the past 31 years. She has two daughters, a grandchild and has a second grandchild on the way.

She said she will be enjoying her retirement making cakes and gardening along with singing in the Chepstow Castle singing group.
