AN Abergavenny restaurant has been named as one of the top 100 places to eat in Britain.
The Walnut Tree at Llandewi Skirrid has re-entered The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants supplement, compiled in association with Harden’s and based on 63,000 reviews from almost 7,000 diners.
The Michelin-starred restaurant run by head chef Shaun Hill and William Griffiths, has been going since the early '60s and was one of the first restaurants in the UK to serve unadulterated Italian cuisine.
It first appeared on the inaugural list in 2010 and once again in 2012. The restaurant’s modern British menu features dishes such as scallops with lentils.
The Walnut Tree is only one of two from Wales to make the list, joining Llangoed Hall in Brecon.
Editor of The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants, Karen Robinson, said: “The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants combines the opinions of thousands of diners to produce a definitive list. Basing it on the ratings of everyday restaurant-goers, who are paying their own money, means it is an honest reflection of the nation’s tastes, so chefs and restaurants should be truly proud to make the list.”
The full top 100, including rankings and an overall score will be revealed on Sunday.
