A REVIEW into the role of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales has made a number of recommendations.

The commissioner is responsible for protecting the rights of children and young people while lobbying the government and other organisations around issues important to them.

The review by child psychiatry expert Dr Mike Shooter recommended whoever occupies the role, which was introduced in 2001 and has been held by Sally Holland since April 2015, should give up all posts with a possible conflict of interest and consideration should be given to their duty of care around their activities after they leave office.

Dr Shooter also recommended each commissioner should be appointed for a single, six-year term, along with a deputy, and that they should re-examine the current staff structures within their office.
