THE sun shone as hundreds of runners took part in the annual Kymin Dash race in Monmouth.

The 7.1 mile race, organised by the Spirit of Monmouth Running Club, saw entrants, who came from across Gwent and as far as Australia, follow a route that climbed 850 feet to the Roundhouse at the summit of The Kymin before descending through fields, for-est tracks and roads back to the start, near Monmouth School Sports Club.

Among those taking part were members of Pont-y-Pwl and District Running Club, the Chepstow Harriers, Lliswerry Runners and a team from The Angel Hotel in Abergavenny. The Monmouth MP David Davies, who regularly takes part in the event, was also among the competitors.

Writing on the event’s Facebook page, race director Emma King said it was a ‘great success’ with record numbers turning out.

Paying tribute to her team of organisers she added: “Thanks to eve-ryone that volunteered your time to help out today and to all the runners as without you we would not have a race, see you next year.”

This year’s event was held in support of St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford. Since 2013 the event has raised £2,250 for various chari-ties, which has been match-funded by Barclays to raise a total of £4,500.
