A CALDICOT chorister has received an award for his 50 years of service.

Following Caldicot Male Voice Choir’s annual concert on April 9, presentation awards were made on behalf of the choir by John Griffiths, a Newport East candidate in the Assembly elections and musical director Siân Hatton alongside recently appointed Choir President Michael Shere-Massey

Bass chorister John Evans was thrilled to receive a certificate and a solid gold bass clef lapel badge to celebrate and acknowledge his 50 year's continuous service in the choir.

Mr Evans joined the choir in 1966 and has been a member ever since.

As a former music teacher and headmaster, he often conducts the choir at practice sessions. Mr Evans is only the second recipient of this award, the other being Colin Jones in 2013.

A long service certificate and silver lapel badge commemorating his 25 years of continuous service was also made to baritone David Kirton. Mr Kirton is also a long serving committee member and joins a remarkable twenty three other current choristers who have received this award.

Honorary vice president and lifetime achievement awards were also presented to long serving choristers, baritone Doug King and bass David Scott and a similar award was made to recently retired choir president Richard Evans.

Richard Evans also received the gift of a digital camera from a grateful choir in acknowledgement of his long and distinguished service over 23 years.
