CHARITY Age Cymru has called on Assembly candidates to commit to improving health and care services for older people ahead of next month’s election.

As part of its manifesto for May’s election the organisation has said links between the NHS and social services must be strengthened to ensure people living in Wales get the best possible care later in life.

The charity’s director of influencing and programmes Victoria Lloyd said: “Health and social care services are a central concern for older people.

“Providing quality health and care services and treating older people with compassion, dignity and respect must be a national priority.

“To achieve this goal, and deliver seamless care between hospital and home we need better joint working between the NHS and social care services.

“Improvements also need to be made to the way that care services are managed so that carers have enough time to provide the care that their clients need.”

Other priorities included in the charity’s manifesto include greater protection from scams for older people, maintaining public transport and tackling low incomes.
