FOODIES from across the county are invited to the return of Monmouthshire Food Festival at Caldicot Castle on Saturday June 4 and Sunday June 5.

Set on first weekend of summer, the event will bring together demonstrations, talks, tastings and plenty of food and drink to sample.

The festival runs two events during the year, with the second event typically scheduled in the autumn.

This year's event is festival's fourth and has been growing steadily since it began.

According to its organiser Charlotte Greig, the festival acts as a showcase for the entire county and its many talents.

"The reason I started the festival was due to my love of the place where I live," said Mrs Greig.

"It's a beautiful place to live. We have got everything, from natural beauty, beautiful pasture lands in Usk and of course, the lovely castle in Caldicot.

"I think we have got to do the very best we can to promote Monmouthshire."

Last year's autumnal event in October was its most successful yet, bringing thousands through the aged portcullis of Caldicot Castle.

Mrs Greig is expecting for similar scenes next month, with people from all reaches of Wales and further afield expressing interest.

"That's the beauty of Monmouthshire, it's so easy to get to. The festival site in Caldicot is only ten minutes from either of the Severn bridges," added Mrs Greig.

Among those demonstrating at the show is Chris Harrod, chef patron of the Michelin-starred The Whitebrook restaurant and local foragers Henry Ashby.

Mr Harrod, whose restaurant also boasts 3 AA Rosettes, uses locally sourced plants and herbs freshly foraged locally by Mr Ashby to work into his menu.

There will also be a produce market, with several stalls displaying all manners of locally sourced produce.

Elsewhere, Guide Dogs Cymru will be offering visitors a chance to meet some of their guide dogs and find out more about their work.

Guide dog owners will also have a prominent role in the cookery demonstrations, showing how blind and partially sighted people prepare their meals from scratch.

Monmouthshire Youth Service will also be hosting a Children's Quarter, with plenty of food-related activities for young attendees.

Admission will cost £5 per person, with children under 12 going free.
