A MONMOUTHSHIRE ten-year-old is hoping to raise £100 for the Stroke Association after seeing her mum’s upset over a colleague’s death.

Georgia Grant Crichton, from Llanvihangel Crucorney, decided to raised money for charity after seeing her mum upset after receiving news that one of her colleague’s had died from a stroke at the age of 45.

She then decided to set up her own fundraising event for Stroke Association and aims to walk 20km in laps around Bailey Park in Abergavenny.

Georgia’s mother Dawn has said she was incredibly shocked at the death of her colleague.

She said: “It was shocking that someone you know and work with could die so young because you don’t expect it to happen to them.

“She was a bubbly and outgoing and a really nice person.”

Mrs Grant Crichton and her husband, Scott, said they are proud of their daughter for organising the event on her own.

He said: “It has made it so much more poignant that Georgia didn’t really know her.

“She had only met her a couple of times if that.

“I wouldn’t have even done that at ten, so the fact that she has is just wonderful.”

Every lap around the path in Bailey Park is 1km, so Georgia has aimed to do 20 of these.

Mr Grant Crichton said she aims to do it alone, but her family and friends will be there to support her.

He added: “She went into school, Llanvihangel Crucorney Primary, and spoke to the head teacher.

“All of her school friends have sponsored her for the walk now.

“She was aiming to raise £100 but I think she’s nearly hit that target already.”

Georgia has been training for the walk over the past few weeks, and has gone for walks with family and friends.

Georgia said she is doing the walk not only to raise awareness of strokes and money for the charity, but to make her mum happy.

She explained: "My mum was upset about the news and it really made me want to make her happy and her friends happy.

“We have been walking round the park to help me prepare.”

Georgia will be walking round Bailey Park at 11am on Saturday with donations going to the Stroke Association.
