A CHARITABLE trust in Gwent has announced The Prince of Wales will continue as its patron, ahead of his visit to Abergavenny today.

The Prince of Wales became patron of the The St Mary’s Priory Development Trust when it was founded in July 1999 and has visited St Mary’s Priory Church in Abergavenny on two occasions.

These include a visit in 2000 and a visit in 2008 to open the Tithe Barn Interpretation Centre which houses the Abergavenny Tapestry.

Chairman of the St Mary’s Priory Development Trust, Sir Trefor Morris stated that His Royal Highness has taken a keen interest in the design of the Jesse Window.

The window was designed by visiting lecturer at Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, Helen Whittaker and will be dedicated today as part of phase one of the development of Lewis Chapel.

This programme is hopes to develop the chapel into a more accessible place of worship and to provide further facilities and community use in conjunction with the Tithe Barn.

The Prince of Wales is also due to visit Abergavenny Fine Foods in Blaenavon, to officially open its new premises after it was badly damaged by fire in July 2015.
