A LOCAL care home manager has been awarded an accolade at the 14th Annual Wales Care Awards.

Sharon Jones, from Rogiet in Monmouthshire, works at the Parklands residential home in Malpas, Newport.

The 44-year-old became a care worker 16 years ago supporting people with Profound and multiple learning and physical disabilities and has never looked back.

Now the registered manager of the Parklands residential home in Malpas, Newport, which supports five women with profound and multiple learning disabilities, Ms Jones was stunned to be announced as a Silver Award Winner in the Wales Care Awards 2016 in the Excellence in Learning Disability and Mental Health Services category.

The prestigious national awards, run by Care Forum Wales, recognise the hard work and exceptional performances of those in the care sector.

Ms Jones, who attended the awards ceremony in Cardiff last Friday, said: “I feel so proud to have won this award and a huge thanks to our staff team at Parklands for their dedication and commitment in providing a high standard of care to the ladies we support.”

Mario Kreft MBE, the chair of Care Forum Wales, said the Wales Care Awards had gone from strength to strength.

He said: “The event is now firmly established as one of the highlights in the Welsh social care calendar. The aim is to recognise the unstinting and often remarkable dedication of our unsung heroes and heroines across Wales.

“If you don’t recognise the people who do the caring you will never provide the standards that people need and never recognise the value of the people who need the care in society.”
