A MOMOUTHSHIRE-based not-for-profit organisation is seeking donations of food, warm clothing and medical supplies for Syrian refugee camps.

iNEED, based in Caldicot, operates across Newport, Monmouth and the surrounding areas to get donations from local people to Syria and refugee camps and towns, and works alongside charities Anaya Aid and One Nation.

As well as asking for food, clothing and medical supplies, the organisation, which was founded in response to the Syrian refugee crisis, is also asking for help to put together bags of clothing for individual children as part of a new scheme called Re-Like.

Natasha Cadman, who set up the organisation in 2015, said: “We act as a collecting point for aid and we’ve had an influx of volunteers who want to help those in such desperate need. They’ve helped us to process all the clothing, bedding, food and medical aid – all of which we repack and transport to Anaya Aid.

“Thanks to the help we’ve received, we sent a large number of loads last year and the industrial unit in Caldicot that we use has been cleared ready to receive more donations.

“The situation in Syria is desperate and we know many local people want to help. In addition to seeking shoes and clothing for adults, bedding, non-perishable food and medical supplies, we are launching a new scheme called Re-Like asking people to put together bags that can be handed out to individual children with everything in, from underwear to coats and hats.”

Ms Cadman said she also hopes schools and community groups will help the team behind iNEED collect items for the Re-Like scheme.

She said: “All you need to do is put as much or as little in each bag as you can and label it with the age and sex of child for which it is suitable. We’ll do the rest.”
