FROM Pontypool Museum's digital archives are two images which take a look back at an area of Pontypool Park.

Close to the centre of the town – on the park’s northern side – are two former houses belonging to residents of the Hanbury family, but have been put to new use.

In one of the photos are a number of girls who attended Pontypool’s St Alban’s Convent, which has since become a secondary school of the same name.

Located in Pontypool House, it was used as a convent from 1915 until it became the site of a comprehensive school – St Alban’s RC High School, which still exists to the day.

In the other image is the stable yard of Pontypool Park House, which now contains the Pontypool Museum – and its digital archive.

Since 1978, under the leadership of the Torfaen Museum Trust, the museum contains more than 15,000 artefacts which are linked to the eastern valley.

These images were donated by the Pontypool Museum as part of its digital archive, which aims to preserve historic documents, images and records from the area.

To find out more about the digital archive, contact the museum at pontypoolmuseum@hotmail.co.uk or call 01495 752036.

The Free Press thanks Pontypool Museum for allowing the paper to use these images.
