TWO work colleagues from Chepstow are embarking on the ambitious challenge of completing five marathons in five days to raise £1,000 for charity.

From June 5, Daniel Morgan, 26, and James Barnes, 29, will run to and from their workplace at Henry Howard Finance in Langstone to raise funds for Home-Start Monmouthshire.

Their chosen route – which equate to 13.5 miles on way – will take them from The Danes estate in Chepstow, down through Mathern and then along the A48 before finishing at Langstone Business Park.

It will be the first time that the pair will be running a full marathon distance, with both of them running half-marathons on previous occasions.

Last March, Mr Morgan ran four marathons on consecutive weekends raising £800 for the same charity.

Having set the aim of raising more money, Mr Morgan said: “I wanted to do something a bit more challenging this year.”

Home-Start Monmouthshire are a family support charity which looks to offer practical help and friendship to those experiencing personal and financial difficulties.

The organisation has to raise funds on a yearly basis to help train volunteers to provide informal and confidential support to families and young children in order to give them a positive start in life.

According to Mr Morgan, the choice of charity came “just by chance” while looking for one to support during his fundraising effort last year.

He said: “I was Googling local charities last year when I decided to do my half marathons and they were one of the first ones to pop up.

“I set up a meeting with Home-Start’s Pam Lloyd and just thought the work they do is invaluable really.”

Local businesses have rallied to help the fundraising effort, with Dan Hines of Chepstow-based apparel company 1Life1Time supplying sponsored T-shirts.

Nathan Micic, of Castles Brewery in Portskewett, has also made sizeable contributions to the fundraising effort.
