CIGARETTES were stolen during a burglary at a One Stop shop in Usk.

The shop in Maryport Street, Usk, was broken into in the early hours of Sunday morning by raiders who searched the store before making off.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “At approximately 3am on Sunday, November 19 we received a report of a security alarm activation following a burglary at One Stop Shop on Maryport Street in Usk.

“Entry was forced into the premises and damaged was caused to the front door and the ceiling.

“The offender/s made an untidy search before making off with large quantity of cigarettes.

“An investigation is underway and CCTV enquiries are ongoing.”

A resident in the area, who did not want to be named, said he saw the store cordoned off by police tape on Sunday morning.

“There are a lot of elderly people in the area and I am sure they are very concerned about what is going on,” he said.

He said it is not the first time the shop has been targeted.

One Stop spokesman: "No members of staff or customers were injured as the store was closed, and we are working, as always, with the police to aid their investigation."
