WE NEED your thoughts on how we deliver our objectives for the future.

The Welsh Government’s Well-being of Future Generations Act requires public bodies to work much more closely, and across Wales organisations like local councils, health boards, police and housing associations have joined in partnership to form bodies called Public Service Boards (PSB).

Each PSB aims to improve its area’s wellbeing.

Last autumn, Monmouthshire’s PSB talked to people in depth about the best aspects of their communities and what could improve them.

This exercise was called Our Monmouthshire and its findings, combined with relevant data and statistics produced a well-being assessment which offered a picture of social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being.

Using this substantial assessment, PSB partners identified the challenges and opportunities facing Monmouthshire and agreed a Well-Being Plan focused on four objectives:

  • Providing children and young people with the best possible start in life. Having good health, a good education and loving and supportive people in their lives are all crucial for giving children a strong foundation.

  • Responding to the challenges associated with demographic change. Monmouthshire has an ageing population and reducing numbers of young people. Young people struggle to afford to buy a house in the county, and older people have much to contribute through volunteering though they may also need care in the future.

  • Protecting and enhancing the resilience of our natural environment while mitigating and adapting to the impact of climate change. The landscape and countryside of Monmouthshire is beautiful and important for tourism, agriculture, recreation, forestry and more, but it needs looking after especially in the face of threats like climate change and other pressures.

  • Developing opportunities for communities and businesses to be part of an economically thriving and well-connected county. Jobs, training and opportunities for all are important, both now and in the future. For a strong local economy we also need good communications and transport.

  • These challenging objectives can only be tackled by public bodies working together with business, the voluntary sector and the wider community.

The PSB wants to know what you think about its objectives and the steps it plans.
