PUPILS and staff at a Monmouth school cycled the distance to John O' Groats - and an extra 164 miles - in a challenge for Sport Relief.

Using static bikes donated by Simply Gym Cwmbran, Talocher School students and teachers pedalled a combined distance of 792 miles last week.

The estimated distance from the school to John O' Groats is 628 miles.

The school has raised more than £600 for Sport Relief through sponsorship.

Among those taking part was 13-year-old Callum Crowley who was hospitalised with serious injuries after falling four storeys from scaffolding in an accident last year.

Despite having no sensation in his legs, he was still able to take part in the ride.

The school has organised several fundraisers for Sport Relief over recent years including climbing Pen y Fan.

Aled Collier, one of the organisers of the event, said the school was proud of its students.

He said: "All of the kids took part, it was a really positive experience.

"We are proud of all the kids that took part and really pleased with the amount raised"

He added: "We cycled a combined distance of 792 miles so we beat the target and started to come back again."
