THE annual Garn Lakes Country Crafts and Recreation Fair followed the success of Blaenavon's World Heritage Day on Sunday.

The event attracted 3,500 energetic visitors who were keen to try out activities such as climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, hill walking and archery.

Youngsters were well catered for with bouncy castles, an assault course and storytelling, while demonstrations from the Usk Valley Gun Dog Club and the Black Mountain Falconry Centre kept everyone entertained.

Event organiser Katie Gates said: "This year's event was the best to date with yet another increase in the attendance figures.

"The Fair is now well established in the Torfaen Council events calendar as a great day out for all the family. We have been fortunate to have good sponsorship this year for the event from the Free Press Series, Capital Region Tourism, HSBC, the Big Pit, Blaenavon Partnership and Out and Out Living."

Preparations are already underway for next year's event and the date has been set for Sunday, July 1, 2007.
