A CWMBRAN advice service for people with disabilities has been awarded a grant of £9,000, but needs the public vote to achieve extra funding.

The Disability Advice Project (DAP) has been providing welfare rights advice and advocacy for the past 16 years. DAP doesn’t charge users for this service and relies on grants and donations.

This week it has been awarded a £9,000 grant by Comic Relief through the Community Foundation in Wales.

Project chairman, Richard Berry, said: “Without grants and donations to help pay our rent, power and phone bills, hundreds of disabled people would have no one to turn to when things go wrong with their care, welfare benefits or have problems with their housing.”

DAP has also reached the regional finals for the Lloyds Bank Community Fund Award 2014.

It is competing to win up to £3,000 and they need Torfaen residents to vote for them by texting GCP to 61119 or by visiting lly-cf.com/GCP
