THE GRANDFATHER of a Cwmbran baby who died when she was 41-days old has appeared in court today charged with her murder.
Cwmbran baby, Amelia Jones died in November 2012.
Mark Jones, 45, of no fixed abode, is also charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice alongside a 17-year-old boy. Both appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Jones was remanded in custody until Monday when he will appear at Newport Crown Court. The 17-year-old was granted unconditional bail.
Each charge of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice relates to the period from November 17, 2012, to July 16 of this year.
As part of the investigation, a 51-year-old woman from the Cwmbran area has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Officers were called to Waun Hywel Road, Pontnewydd, at around 10.35pm on November 17, 2012, by the ambulance service following concerns for Amelia's health.
She was taken to Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital before being transferred to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where she died on November 19.
