CWMBRAN town centre was transformed into a bustling European market place today.

The event was hosted by Traditional Market.

Director Olivier Simonin said more than 200 people took the opportunity to browse the stalls on its first day. But due to the wet weather numbers were lower than expected.

He added: “We are very happy to be here and local people are taking the opportunity to ask the traders lots of questions and to practise their Spanish and French.

“We hope to welcome even more people over the remaining two days.”

The market is hosting traders from France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Holland and many more countries, who are selling local produce from their home countries.

Shoppers are able to browse a range of products including crepes, cheeses, sausages, and tartiflette, a cheese and potatoes dish from the Alps.

There is also a wide range of products including hand bags, soaps, children’s toys and clothes.

The market continues today and tomorrow and will be open from 9am to 5pm.
