A FAMILY from Cwmbran has raised more than £1,000 for Stand Up To Cancer.
Christine Allen, 58, of Gileston Walk, along with her daughter Karra Wade, 41, put on a day of events on Friday at the Threepenny Bit Hall, Deerbrook, raising £1,050.11.
Mrs Wade, a hairdresser spent 12 hours cutting and styling hair to raise money for the Cancer Research and Channel 4 campaign.
Around 100 people turned up to the all day event which included a raffle, tombola, an auction and psychic reading.
The family planned the fundraiser in support of Christine's daughter, Kresta Allen, 36, who is currently being treated for cancer of the kidney.
Mrs Allen said: "We were all devastated to find out she had been diagnosed with cancer in September and then she had her kidney removed earlier in October.
"As a family we just wanted to do something. The response has been phenomenal from the community - everyone really enjoyed themselves on the day."
The lollipop lady added: "I'm so grateful to everyone who helped. The children and parents at Nant Celyn primary donated tins and bottles for the tombola - it felt very emotional and everyone was so kind."
The evening entertainment consisted of CJ Horton as an Elvis tribute act, Ashley Jordan as a drag queen and Mello-D, a ladies choir from Cwmbran.
