A RETIRED miner has written a three-tome diary of Blaenavon and its people covering three decades from the Second World War to the seventies.

Cyril “Cy” Morgan, 74, spent years putting together 'Blaenavon: The Town I Love So Well', which features photos, stories and news cuttings from 1940 to 1973.

The book delves into the lives of some of the town’s most famous sons including international rugby player Ken Jones.

The diary covers sports like soccer, rugby, darts, and pigeon flying and includes cuttings from the South Wales Argus and Free Press.

Mr Morgan said: “I’m very passionate about this area and period of time.

“We enjoyed ourselves, we had no television though they did come in eventually.

“It was great going out and playing and doing things.”

The dad of two worked as a miner in Blaenavon including the Big Pit and played as a full back for Talywain for seven seasons.
