A CHRISTMAS tree is to be installed in Pontypool so that residents can remember their loved ones.

The tree will be placed at the Civic Centre with people able to dedicate a candle to a loved one and write messages to be placed on the tree in return for a donation to the mayor's charities.

This year's mayor is Cllr Mandy Owen and during her term in office she is fundraising for St David’s Foundation, Tenovus and TOGs.

The seven foot tree has been donated by Cwmbran-based Festive Productions, which is one of the biggest Christmas decorations suppliers in the UK.

They also manufacture tinsel.

This is the second time that the company has donated a tree, having donated their first one to the council 13 years ago.

Cllr Owen said: “I would like to thank Festive Productions for their generous donation which will not only benefit the mayor’s charities but will, I hope, offer some comfort and support to people as they remember their loved ones over the Christmas period.”
