A 19-YEAR-OLD from Cwmbran was sentenced to a two-year youth detention order for threatening someone with a kitchen knife.

Dylan Willis, aged 19, of North Road, Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran, was sentenced at Newport Crown Court on November 18, for threatening a person with a bladed article.

Willis submitted a guilty plea for the incident which took place on August 18 in Chapel Street, Cwmbran.

Jason Howells, prosecuting, told the court that the defendant was witnessed throwing a knife and making a slashing motion towards a Mr Talbot.

He said: “All witnesses indicate it (knife) was thrown towards the complainant. The complainant and four other witnesses have all indicated that there was a slashing motion.

“If he had not jumped back it would have no doubt caused injury.”

Mr Howells told the court that Willis admitted throwing the knife in Mr Talbot’s direction but didn’t intend to hit him. James Lewis, defending, said: “He accepts waving the knife to show it but denies he was close enough to Mr Talbot to have contact.”

Recorder Jonathan Ferris sentenced Willis to a two-year detention order and made him subject to a restraining order for three years.

Willis must also pay a £100 victim surcharge.
