THE grandfather of a Cwmbran baby - Amelia Rose Jones, who died two years ago aged just 41 days - has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he murdered her.

Mark Jones, aged 45, of no fixed abode, answered the charge through a video link from Cardiff Prison, during a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court today.

A 17-year-old youth who cannot be named, appeared at the hearing also charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Jones was remanded in custody. The 17-year-old had his bail extended. Both are due to appear in court again on Monday December 22.

Jones' trial on the murder charge is scheduled to take place in March next year.

A previous hearing was told that Amelia Rose Jones died on November 19 2012 at the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff, where she had been transferred after having initially been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.

Police had been called by the ambulance service to an address in Cwmbran, at around 10.35pm on November 17 2012, following concerns about the baby's health.
