A CWMBRAN teenager, whose dad is an ex-soldier, is to launch a single in memory of her grandmother, with half of the proceeds going to a military charity.

Morgan Rawbone, 16, will launch the single, I Miss You, at an event held in Whitchurch, Cardiff on December 22.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from the single will be donated to the military charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which is dedicated to supporting the children of men and women killed while serving in the British Armed Forces.

The charity provides Christmas and birthday gifts, treats, trips, and activities for the families of the fallen as well as enabling them to use the charity’s holiday lodges.

Ms Rawbone’s father, James, 40, is a former corporal who served with 1st The Queens Dragoon Guards in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Northern Ireland.

The music video for I Miss You, which features Joey Devries from the X-Factor’s Overload, can be viewed here:

Ms Rawbone said that she co-wrote the song with her mother, Sam, 38, after realising how lucky she was to still have her father.

She said: “I Miss You is firstly about my nan’s battle with cancer in 2011 and it’s my goodbye, really. She was like a second Mum to me. My nan was an amazing woman and very caring, who put others before herself.

“The song also relates to children of fallen soldiers, as my Dad is ex-forces and that could easily have happened to me.

“I love putting ideas together and I also put myself in the shoes of partners of those who went to war. It was a challenge and it was quite powerful.

“My Dad is wonderful and even though he was away a lot, he was only ever a phone call away. FUNDRAISING SONG: Morgan RawboneHe’s an amazing Dad and I really respect him for what he did.”

Ms Rawbone, who plays the piano and wrote her first song three years ago, is currently studying A-level Maths, English Literature, and Art at Bassaleg High School in Newport.

Ms Rawbone will be supporting Bars and Melody , who appeared on the final of Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year, on December 17 and 18 at Gwyn Hall, Neath.

The single was recorded at One Louder Studios in Newport. The accompanying video was shot at Dinefwr House in Llandeilo and at the Broadway Country House Hotel in Laugharne by students and staff at the University of Wales Trinity St David.
