OFFERS to help the fundraising drive for a young Cwmbran mother struck down with a rare brain and spinal cord condition have come flooding in.

Lisa Wilcox, aged 31, has been left unable to speak and barely able to move after being diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (Adem), a rare inflammatory brain and spinal cord condition.

Her cousin Natasha Maddison-Wilcox and Lucy Harrison, the wife of another of Miss Wilcox’s cousins, have started a fundraising drive to help with the expenses of her parents Anthony and Ceri Wilcox who are facing months or even years of daily hospital trips.

A fundraising page set up just five days ago has raised £2,225 with another £250 being raised by an auction for a long weekend caravan holiday in Trecco Bay.

Ms Maddion-Wilcox said lots of offers of help have been made for a fun day, planned at the Castell-y-Bwch pub, near Henllys, Cwmbran, on Saturday June 13.

A DJ, a band, Voice contestant Stephanie Webber, mascots and belly dancers had all offered their services.

Ms Maddison- Wilcox, also of Cwmbran, said: “It’s unreal what people have given.

“I was in work and someone recognised me and just gave me £10, I’m going to get a charity bucket to collect some cash as well.

“People can say bad things about communities but people are donating who don’t even know Lisa. I wasn’t expecting it to hit £1,000 let alone £2,000.

“It’s quite touching really. Lisa’s Mum and Dad broke down in tears when they heard that we had reached £600, they just can’t believe it. We really do appreciate it.”

It is not known how long Miss Wilcox’s recovery will take, and what its extent will be.
